A$AP Ferg - Ferg Forever

UncategorizedContributor JonesComment

Download: A$AP Ferg - Ferg Forever A$AP Mob's Lord Fergenstein has a new album coming in 2015, and he's decided to tease toward it with a DJ Drama-hosted Gangsta Grillz mixtape. The title: Ferg Forever. With production from Clams Casino, Big K.R.I.T., Mike Will, and Crystal Caines, this is pretty diverse set of tracks. There's a number of impressive feature credits as well: Big Sean, YG, SZA, A$AP Nast.

While I can't really expect it to be anything more than just a taste of what's to come, it's still a good taste. Download this thing via the link above.

A$AP Ferg - "Doe-Active"

It's official: A$AP Ferg has gone insane. The New York rapper and A$AP Mob member has been dropping singles relentlessly since last week, but the output has been relatively underwhelming thus far. However, "Doe-Active" seems to break that boring streak.

This track looks like it'll be dropping on Ferg's forthcoming mixtape, and it features an electro-trap instrumental with a hard-hitting finish. As far as Ferg's rapping goes, these are some of the oddest flows I've ever heard him deliver. His wild inflections and screams put him just shy of the energy level on a track like "I Can't Wait." There's even some unexpected Adam Levine name-drops in the 2nd half.

The only thing that separates him from ODB--or maybe even Lil Wayne at this point--on this track is Ferg seems to be conscious of how little sense he's making. While I love the explosive character of the track, there isn't much in terms of a song at the core of this thing. I can't see myself returning to it anytime soon. Maybe it'll sound better in the context of this forthcoming tape. I can only hope and assume that the Trap Lord works in mysterious ways.

A$AP Rocky - "Multiply" ft. Juicy J

Previously loved A$AP Mob figurehead A$AP Rocky's got a new track out, and I'm hoping that means a new album is on the way come 2015.

Personally, I'm a little more excited for whatever my dude Ferg is gonna do next, but "Multiply" has a lot to offer. The beat is absolutely sick with some resonant bass and an eerie, droning melody that hangs menacingly in the background. A$AP's catchy flows, Pimp C references, and shots at various clothing lines make the verses here pretty entertaining.

My main issues with the track sit with the various detours and stops the song makes along the way to the finish. Hopefully the song's album version isn't quite as disjointed. The Juicy J "feature" isn't really anything to brag about either. Considering Southern hip hop acts like Three 6 Mafia are a primary influence for Rocky, you'd think Juicy J would have done more for the track.

No reason not to look forward to whatever Rocky's got up his sleeve next, but the true potential of "Multiply" was not reached.
