Jean Grae & Quelle Chris - "OhSh" ft. Hannibal Buress

Two of my favorite underground rappers, Quelle Chris and Jean Grae, are set to release a collaborative album titled Everything's Fine this March. I'm pretty excited about this for the following reasons:

  1. Quelle Chris is one of Detroit's true eccentrics, and has an understated but compelling rap style. He also dropped one of the best rap records of 2017, Being You Is Great, I Wish I Could Be You More Often.
  2. Jean Grae is one of the East Coast's most gnarly and versatile lyricists, and I've been waiting for her to drop something more sizable since her last couple of mixtapes in 2011 and 2012.
  3. The tracklist contains appearances from SNL's Michael Che, Nick Offerman of Parks and Rec, New York's own Your Old Droog, Denmark Vessey, singer Anna Wise, and even humorist John Hodgman.
  4. The lead single, "OhSh," is fire and features a rap verse from comedian Hannibal Buress.

Everything's Fine drops March 30 via Mello Music Group.

Uncommon Nasa - "Written at Night" ft. Billy Woods & Quelle Chris

Staten Island MC Uncommon Nasa is dropping his first entirely self-produced album next month on Man Bites Dog Records. It's called Written at Night, and the tracklist looks almost like a who's who of current underground hip hop, featuring Open Mike Eagle, Billy Woods, Quelle Chris, and many more. Stream the title/closing track, which features two of those names, up there.

Premiere: Quelle Chris - "BS Vibes" ft. House Shoes

Quelle Chris drops more jazzy, left-field vibes from his upcoming album, Being You Is Great, I Wish I Could Be You More Often. This isn't one of his more structured tracks, featuring an endless instrumental loop and low-key verses separated by DJ cuts that reiterate a simple mantra: "Don't stand so close to me." Chris' bars reveal his devotion to the art of lyricism, peppered with clever references to his skill and youth, "I lived by the loose leaf since a kid. Ice cream on the face like Gucci." While it may not seem like much on its own, this track is sure to add to a chill, heady vibe on this forthcoming LP.

Being You Is Great, I Wish I Could Be You More Often drops February 10 via Mello Music Group.
