Scotland's Young Father's change direction, and head into lo-fi pop territory on this creative new album of theirs.

Young Fathers - "Soon Come Soon"

Fresh off a Mercury Prize win, previously loved Young Fathers have dropped a new single titled "Soon Come Soon," which features the trio's usual blend of hip hop, African music, and alluring balladry. The song starts with a loose, primal groove and ends with a gorgeous set of vocal harmonies. It's a warm track that brings back the natural vibe I enjoyed so much from their initial mixtapes, but was somehow forgotten on their recently released commercial debut.

Young Fathers - "WAR"

A brand new single from the Scottish experimental hip hop outfit Young Fathers. The group is getting set to drop a new full-length via Anticon on February 3rd. The title of this thing: DEAD.

"WAR" isn't one of Young Fathers' most hard-hitting tracks, but it is one of their strangest, alternating between intense stints of spoken word, and impassioned group singing. Enjoy!

CHVRCHES - The Bones of What You Believe

Scottish synth pop trio CHVRCHES might have some really hot singles, but the rest of their debut album is a little hit or miss for me.

Young Fathers - "Effigy"

Scottish experimental hip hop trio Young Fathers brings the second installment of Friends of Friends' Show Me the Future compilation series to a powerful close with the track "Effigy." With its alternately bleeping and rumbling instrumental and its formidable flow, it's hard to blame the label for gushing that it's "a track so good we HAD to preview it."

Show Me the Future Volume 2 is due out August 12th via Friends of Friends. Earlier this year, Young Fathers dropped the EP Tape Two, which you can watch a review of here:

Young Fathers - "Queen Is Dead"

Scottish experimental hip hop outfit Young Fathers drop some visuals for the TAPE TWO track "Queen Is Dead," and the gritty, black and white closeups that comprise this vid match the sounds presented perfectly. The urgent lyrics, blaring synths, and exited shouts of "WOO" all have an in-your-face attitude to them I love.

Scottish experimental hip hop outfit Young Fathers have some new visuals out for the track "I Heard," which is one of the many cuts to be released on their next project, TAPE TWO. This sophomore album of theirs is looking at a June 11th release on Anticon Records.
