Fatal Jamz- "Scorpion Chain"

VideosadminComment

A video from Los Angeles' Fatal Jamz for the fast-rockin' "Scorpion Chain," which sounds like an interesting cross between the modern and messy punk energy of Jay Reatard with the over-the-top presentation of glam.

Jamz has a debut album coming out on Burger Records and Gnar Tapes in November. Also, while you're at it, check out a project that was also fronted by Fatal Jamz's Marion Belle named Bowery Beasts on Bandcamp.

The Keepsies- Dumb Fun

New TracksadminComment

The Keepsies are a New York trio, and among the musicians involved is Jason Kelly of Fergus & Geronimo. If you've heard that duo's work--especially their 2010 album "unlearn.", the somewhat vintage rock aesthetic the Keepsies projects shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

The heavy level of snark usually associated with Fergus & Geronimo's music is surprisingly vacant here, which is nice because the band has certainly replaced that with smitten sincerity on tracks like "Saturday" and "Get Back."

Nude Beach- II

New TracksGuest UserComment

Brooklyn-based Nude Beach are bringing back some old school rock 'n' roll with their new 10-track LP, II, which is available on Bandcamp. The vintage power pop sounds on this album are delivered with a bit of a punk spirit--much in the same way a band like the Undertones did back in the day. However, Nude Beach is what's worth focusing on, not their influences. This is mostly due to their energy in a lot of these songs, fronted by vocalist Chuck Betz who has a really great, raw delivery.

Poor Moon- "People In Her Mind"

Among Sub Pop Records' most recent signees is Poor Moon, a project consisting of Christian Wargo and Casey Wescott of Fleet Foxes and Crystal Skulls, as well as Ian and Peter Murray of the Christmas Cards. "People In Her Mind" comes from the band's recently released EP Illusion, a five-track release that precedes a full-length debut that is set to drop in August. The group's nods to '60s guitar pop is sure to draw a lot of comparisons to The Zombies, but that's not to say necessarily that it won't appeal to fans of the members' respective projects.

Give "People In Her Mind" a listen above, and look for the full EP on Sub Pop.

Royal Headache- “Down The Lane”

New TracksGuest UserComment

Aussie punk rockers Royal Headaches has released a new track though the label that's reissuing its 2011 self-titled album, What's Your Rupture?. This is the kind of track that, while nostalgic, still feels like something fresh. There is a fun energy that has some clear power-pop elements to it. Everything is slightly distorted, and there's a retro sheen to the recording as well. Even with the distortion the vocals still have a raw range to them giving the song an extra edge.

What’s Your Rupture? is set to release this self-titled album on May 8.
